Red Bull launches new orienteering adventure race

Red Bull has announced that it’s launching a brand new racing concept this autumn called Red Bull Robin Hood.

The new orienteering adventure race will take place on 1st November 2014 in Robin Hood’s hometown of Nottingham, bringing an exciting new twist to a legend of British folklore.

Playing on the heritage of Robin Hood and the key qualities required to be an orienteer, the adventure-style race will require a combination of speed, stamina and navigational skill.

Competitors will need to find their way around the carefully mapped out course in Sherwood Pines forest, while completing a range of special tasks and activities and meeting some interesting characters along the way.

This serious orienteering event is backed by British Orienteering and is bringing an exciting new dimension to a lesser-known sport.

Orienteering is already popular across parts of Europe among 16-30 year olds, but has yet to make the big breakthrough in the UK. Red Bull Robin Hood is set to shoot down this barrier and bring a fresh new approach to a sport that tests both body and mind.

Mike Hamilton, Head of British Orienteering, said: “Red Bull Robin Hood is a great new concept that is built on heritage and tradition, just like orienteering.

This event is a fantastic way of giving more people knowledge of the sport, using an approach that is new and exciting. We expect it to be a big hit and believe it will encourage more people to give the sport a try.”

Paying homage to the values that made Robin Hood and his merry men so famous, all registration fees will be donated straight to the Wings For Life charity. Wings For Life is a charity that was set up by Red Bull to help find a cure for spinal cord injuries.

The event is open to both men and women, with prizes given to the top three competitors in the men and women’s categories.

This serious orienteering event has been backed by the British Orienteering Federation (BOF) and is bringing an exciting new dimension to a rapidly growing sport. Registration is open now, click here to register and ensure your place!
